Box Score The Hope College women's soccer team cooled off the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association's highest-scoring offense during its 2014 home debut.
The Flying Dutch blanked Albion College 2-0 on Monday in the league debut for both teams.
Hope (2-2 overall) shut out an opponent that had accumulated a MIAA-best 21 goals in four matches during nonleague play. The Flying Dutch made senior goalie Kat Dickson of Grayslake, Illinois (Grayslake Central HS) only have to record one save.
Two first-half goals gave Hope the offense it needed to join Adrian, Alma and Trine atop the MIAA standings.
Sophomore forward Elizabeth Perkins of Eaton Rapids, Michigan (Lansing Christian HS) scored her team-leading second goal of the season to snap a scoreless tie in the 28th minute. Perkins converted a cross from senior forward Nora Kirk of Maumee, Ohio (Notre Dame Academy).
Senior Erin Jipping of Holland, Michigan (West Ottawa HS), then extended Hope's lead to 2-0 in the 36th minute with a goal from about 10 yards out.
The Flying Dutch return to action on Thursday, Sept. 11, when they host Adrian for a 7 p.m. match at Van Andel Soccer Stadium.
