Hope Women's Soccer Strikes Late, Blanks Olivet For 10th Shutout

Forward Rylie Dalton scored twice late in regulation to power the Hope College women's soccer team to a 2-0 win at third-place Olivet College on Wednesday.

The freshman from Rockford, Michigan (Rockford HS), recorded her third multi-goal game to raise her single-season total to eight goals.

Dalton helped Hope extend its win streak to four matches. The Flying Dutch are now 14-2-1 overall and 11-1-1 in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play.

Dalton scored twice in a 14-minute span late in the second half.

The first goal came with 16 minutes, 45 seconds remaining in regulation. Sophomore forward Allie Wittenbach of Ada, Michigan (Forest Hills Central HS), collected her fifth assist.

Dalton struck again with 2:43 left. Junior forward Elizabeth Perkins of Eaton Rapids, Michigan (Lansing Christian HS), recorded her second assist.

Sophomore goalie Mary Clare Theis of East Lansing, Michigan (Haslett HS), did not need to make a save but earned her 10th shutout of the season.

Theis tied Kat Dickson (2014) for third in goalie shutouts in team history. The school record of 15 belongs to Holly Nestle (2005 and 2003).

Hope returns to action on Satuday, Oct. 24, when the Flying Dutch host Alma for homecoming. Kickoff is noon at Van Andel Soccer Stadium.
