Senior Makes Season's First Start, Leads Hope Men's Basketball Past Kalamazoo

Box Score

Senior Corey McMahon scored a career-high 15 points to help the Hope College men's basketball team defeat Kalamazoo 67-55 on Wednesday and clinch a berth in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Tournament.

The Flying Dutchmen are now 16-8 overall and 9-4 in MIAA play heading into Saturday's regular-season finale against visiting Adrian.

Hope joins top-seeded Calvin, Trine and Alma to comprise the 2015 MIAA Tournament. Seeds for the Flying Dutchmen, Trine and Alma will be determined on Saturday, but the Flying Dutchmen need a win against Adrian and a Trine loss to Olivet to host a semifinal game.

McMahon thrived in his first start of the season and sixth of his career. The guard from Glenview, Illinois (Glenbrook South HS), sank the first of his career-high five 3-pointers six seconds into the game.

McMahon totaled 12 points before halftime as Hope grabbed a 37-30 lead.

Two teammates joined McMahon in double figures.

Sophomore forward Harrison Blackledge of Canton, Ohio (Hoover HS), chipped in 13 points and a game-high eight rebounds.

Junior guard Ben Gardner of Carmel, Indiana (Carmel HS), scored 10 points.

Tipoff is 3 p.m. Saturday at DeVos Fieldhouse for Hope against Adrian.

The Flying Dutchmen are holding a free team poster giveaway for youth after the game. Coaches and players will sign autographs as well.
