Box Score The Hope College men's basketball team delivered a record-setting defensive performance on the season on Saturday to key a 56-41 win against Adrian.
The 41 points allowed in front of a DeVos Fieldhouse crowd of 3,117 is a DeVos record for the Flying Dutchmen. The previous mark was set during a 92-43 win against Alma on February 16, 2008.
Hope (17-8 overall) now will advance to next week's Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Tournament as the No. 3 seed. The Flying Dutchmen will play at No. 2 seed Trine (17-8) on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
Hope and Trine both finished with 10-4 league records and split their regular-season meetings. Trine won the tiebreaker for the higher seed because the Thunder beat top-seeded Calvin once.
The other MIAA Tournament semifinal pits fourth-seeded Alma (11-14) at Calvin (19-6). Winners meet on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at site of highest remaining seed.
Sophomore Harrison Blackledge of Canton, Ohio (Hoover HS), totaled a game-high 20 points, nine rebounds and four assists against Adrian (8-17, 6-8 MIAA).
Junior Brock Benson of Willowbrook, Illinois (Hinsdale South HS), chipped in 11 points, seven rebounds, two steals and two blocks for the Flying Dutchmen.
Corey McMahon of Glenview, Illinois (Glenbrook South HS), Hope's lone senior player honored on Senior Day, finished with seven points and six rebounds.
