Box Score 2 The Hope College men's tennis team defeated Ohio Northern 7-2 and lost to Luther (Iowa) 9-0 on Saturday at DeWitt Tennis Center.
The matches were the first head-to-head ones of the season for the Flying Dutchmen (1-1).
Against Ohio Northern, freshmen Sam Schuster, Chris O'Keefe and William Yancey all earned two points for Hope.
Schuster, from DeWitt, Michigan (DeWitt HS), defeated Ohio Northern's Alex Starr 6-1, 6-3 at No. 3 singles.
Schuster also paired with sophomore Sam Kreps of Holland, Michigan (Holland HS), for an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles against Alex Starr and Andy Starr.
O'Keefe, of Holland, Michigan (Holland HS), beat Alex Altman at No. 5 singles 7-6 (5), 6-1, while Yancey, of Wayzata, Minnesota (Wayzata HS), defeated Alex Genbauffe 6-4, 6-1, at No. 6 singles.
O'Keefe and Yancey teamed to down Altman and Gary Hess 8-5 at No. 3 doubles.
Senior Cody Herbruck of Grand Rapids, Michigan (Forest Hills Central HS), won a 6-0, 6-4 decision at No. 2 singles against Sam Prewett.
Freshman Grant Wunderlich of Portage, Michigan (Portage Northern HS), claimed a 6-0, 6-1 win against Andy Starr at No. 4 singles.
Hope returns to action on Friday, February 27, when the Flying Dutchmen host Aquinas College at 5 p.m. at DeWitt Tennis Center.
