Sophomore Harrison Blackledge scored a game-high 19 points as the Hope College men's basketball team won at Trine 55-44 on Thursday in the semifinals of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Tournament.
The forward from Canton, Ohio (Hoover HS), led the Flying Dutchmen in scoring against Trine all three games this season. He averaged 22.7 points per game against the Thunder (17-9).
Hope received against Trine a season-high 15 points off the bench from junior forward Sam Otto of Wheaton, Illinois (Wheaton North HS). Otto, pictured, came within one point of matching his career-high.
Hope (18-8 overall) advanced to Saturday's 7:30 p.m. MIAA title game at Calvin, a 73-65 winner over visiting Alma Thursday.
The 44 points allowed to Trine is the season's second-best defensive effort for Hope. The Flying Dutchmen yielded only 41 on Saturday in the regular-season finale against Adrian.
Starting junior center Brock Benson of Willowbrook, Illinois (Hinsdale South HS), chipped in 12 points. He scored the game's first eight points as the Flying Dutchmen never trailed.
Saturday will be Hope's 10th consecutive trip to the MIAA final and 16th overall. The Flying Dutchmen will play Calvin for a tournament championship for the third season in a row and 12th time overall.
All tickets for the 191st Hope-Calvin game will be sold through the Calvin ticket office. Tickets are $7 for adults, $5 for MIAA faculty/staff and $5 for children. MIAA students get a free ticket with ID.
