Box Score 2 The Hope College men's tennis team dropped a pair of close nonleague matches on Saturday in Wheaton, Illinois.
The Flying Dutchmen were edged by Elmhurst, Illinois 5-4 and Wheaton 6-3.
Sophomore Sam Kreps of Holland, Michigan (Holland HS), won three matches on the day.
Against Wheaton, Kreps beat Derek Murraw 6-3, 6-3 and paired with Matthew for an 8-4 victory at No. 1 doubles Culver against Josh Ward and Karl Wenzel.
Kreps topped Elmhurst's Ricardo Franco 6-2, 4-6, 10-7 at No. 6 singles.
Against Elmhurst, senior Cody Herbruck of Grand Rapids, Michigan (Forest Hills Central HS), claimed a 7-6, 2-6, 10-7 win at No. 1 singles against Chris Harrison.
Herbruck also teamed with senior Colin McKey of Stevensville, Michigan (Stevensville-Lakeshore HS), at No. 2 doubles for an 8-4 victory against Matt Kulma and Ricardo Franco.
Hope (2-9) returns to action on Wednesday when the Flying Dutchmen travel to Trine for a 4 p.m. MIAA opener.
