Senior goalie Sam Barthel of Waukesha, Wisconsin (Waukesha HS), made seven saves for the Hope College men's soccer team in a 2-0 loss at Aurora, Illinois, on Saturday.

The Flying Dutchmen will head into Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play next week with a 3-2 overall record.

Aurora (2-3) grabbed a 2-0 halftime lead with goals 8 minutes, 10 seconds into the nonleague match and with 11 seconds remaining in the half. 

Hope returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 16 when the Flying Dutchmen host Alma at Van Andel Soccer Stadium. The MIAA opener kicks off at 7 p.m.
