Hope College's Chris Leigh has been honored as the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Special Teams Player of the Week in football for games played through Week 1 of the season.
The sophomore kick returner from Lake Orion, Michigan (Lake Orion HS), set a school record when he returned a kickoff 96 yards for a touchdown during a 31-19 home loss to Monmouth, Illinois, on Saturday, Sept. 5.
Leigh broke the previous mark of 90 yards set by Andy Snyder against Tri-State, Indiana, in 2004.
Leigh also started at running back for the Flying Dutchmen and rushed for 94 yards on 14 carries during the nonleague game.
This is the first time Leigh has received MIAA weekly recognition.
The Flying Dutchmen return to action on Saturday, Sept. 12 when they play at Elmhurst, Illinois.
