Box Score 2 A set away from a winless final day at the Midwest Invitational, the fifth-ranked Hope College volleyball turned the tide and topped Clarkson, New York in five sets on Saturday at DeVos Fieldhouse.
The Flying Dutch won 20-25, 25-17, 22-25, 25-18, 15-6 to finish the two-day tournament with a 1-3 record.
Hope (18-3 overall) rebounded from a 19-25, 25-19, 26-24, 25-17 loss to No. 17 Elmhurst in its morning opener.
Senior libero Alexis Thompson of Monroe, Michigan (St. Mary Catholic Central) earned a spot on the seven-player, all-tournament team.
Thompson totaled a season-high 44 digs against Clarkson (17-8).
Hope never trailed in the fourth set after scoring six consecutive points for a 7-2 lead. The Flying Dutch yielded the first point of the fifth set but reeled off six points in a row for a commanding lead.
Senior Sarah Feldpausch of White Cloud, Michigan (White Cloud) totaled a career-high 19 kills.
Senior Courtney Van Houzen of Traverse City, Michigan (West) recorded a season-high 17 kills.
Junior Haley Muller of Grand Rapids, Michigan (GR Christian) and sophomore Katie Rietberg of Holland, Michigan (West Ottawa) had 12 kills apiece.
Junior setter Sophia Hackett of Indianapolis, Indiana (Brebeuf Jesuit) finished with 59 assists.
Against Elmhurst, Rietberg and Van Houzen shared team-high honors with sophomore Vanessa Reynhout of Freeport, Michigan (Lakewood).
Hackett finished with 40 assists. Thompson collected 35 digs.
Hope returns to action on Tuesday, Oct. 18 with a 6:30 p.m. match at Albion.
