Box Score The Hope College women's soccer team made a run at taking over the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association lead, but a late goal denied the Flying Dutch the desired victory.
The Flying Dutch fell 1-0 to Kalamazoo Tuesday at Van Andel Soccer Stadium after the Hornets scored with 5 minutes, 4 seconds remaining in regulation.
Hope's record is now 7-2-2 overall and 6-1-2 in MIAA play. The Flying Dutch trail Kalamazoo (9-1-2, 8-0-1 MIAA) by five points with seven league matches remaining.
Hope outshot Kalamazoo by a 13-8 margin. The Flying Dutch forced Kalamazoo to make five saves, including a diving attempt on a second-half breakaway when the game was still scoreless.
Kalamazoo took the lead after a foul on Hope gave the Hornets a free kick from 35 yards out. Sarah George tucked the shot over the outstretched arms of goalie Mary Clare Theis.
Hope returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 8 with a noon match vs. Adrian at Van Andel Soccer Stadium.
