Men's Basketball Edged By Wilkes In Mount Union M-Club Classic Consolation Game

A furious second-half comeback fell short for the Hope College men's basketball team in a 76-74 loss to Wilkes, Pennsylvania on Friday in the consolation game of the Mount Union M-Club Classic.

The Flying Dutchmen (7-4 overall) overcome a 16-point halftime deficit to tie the score at 74-74 with 1 minute, 12 seconds remaining.

Hope held possession with 51 seconds remaining but committed a turnover 19 seconds later. Wilkes (6-6) then scored with six seconds left, and the Flying Dutchmen could not get a shot off before the final buzzer sounded.

Senior forward Harrison Blackledge of Canton, Ohio (Hoover HS) scored a game-high 27 points for Hope. He also recorded four assists en route to earning all-tournament honors.

Senior forward Cody Stuive of Hudsonville, Michigan (Hudsonville) added 17 points.

The Flying Dutchmen outscored Wilkes 20-6 at the foul line, but missed 11 free throws to their opponents' four misses.

Wilkes also made 12 3-pointers to Hope's eight — and at a 63.2 percent clip to the Flying Dutchmen's 38.1 percent.

Hope returns to action on Wednesday, Jan. 4 with the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association opener at Albion. Tipoff is 7:30 p.m.
