Hope Women's Basketball Home For NCAA Tourney, Faces Carnegie Mellon

The Hope College women's basketball team will tip off the 2016 NCAA Division III Tournament at DeVos Fieldhouse this weekend.

The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association champion Flying Dutch will host first- and second-round games on Friday and Saturday.

Hope (26-1) will play Carnegie Mellon (19-6) on Friday at 7:30 p.m. This will be their first all-time meeting.

Friday's other first-round game at DeVos Fieldhouse features Ohio Northern (22-4) and Denison, Ohio (23-4) at 5:30 p.m.

Friday's winners will advance to Saturday's 7 p.m. second-round game at DeVos Fieldhouse.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students. They will go on sale through the Hope College ticket office on Tuesday beginning at 9 a.m. They can be purchased in person at the office at 100 East Eighth Street, online at https://tickets.hope.edu/ticketing/ or by phone at (616) 395-7890.

Hope received the MIAA's automatic berth to the national tournament after winning the league tournament last weekend.

This is the Flying Dutch's fourth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance and 16th overall. Hope won national titles in 2006 and 1990.

Carnegie Mellon claimed one of 20 at-large berths in the 64-team women's field. The Tartans placed third in the University Athletic Association this season.

Ohio Northern earned an at-large invitation after losing in the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament semifinals. The Polar Bears were the regular-season OAC champions. 

Denison, the North Coast Athletic Conference regular-season champs, picked up an at-large berth after losing in the semifinals of the NCAC Tournament.
