Maura McAfee's All-American senior season started well before she played one minute in the 2015-16 women's basketball season.
The senior forward from Midland, Michigan (Midland HS) made herself into one of the top players in NCAA Division III through diligent offseason work, Hope College coach Brian Morehouse said.
"Her effort to improve every single year was noticeable," Morehouse said. "She is exemplary in her work not only in practice but the time she put in during the summer and in the mornings. Maura made herself into an All American by honing her God-given talent on a daily basis."
McAfee is one of 10 players named to the 2016 Women's Basketball Coaches Association NCAA Division III All-America First Team.
McAfee averaged a team-high 16.0 points per game while helping Hope post a 26-2 record this season, earn a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association regular-season and league titles for a NCAA Division III Championship berth.
The 10-member team was selected by a vote of the selection committee. The committee is composed of one representative from each of the nine geographical regions and a chairperson.

"The 10 members of the 2016 WBCA NCAA Division III Coaches' All-America Team are well deserving of this recognition," WBCA Executive Director Danielle Donehew said.
"The WBCA congratulates them for their accomplishments this season," Donehew said. "These young women have worked to elevate themselves and their teams to an elite level and through their exceptional talents on the basketball court, they have lifted the women's game."
McAfee's 447 points as a senior were a career-best and tied for third in team history with Bria Ebels (2005-06).
McAfee's 297 rebounds this season were the second most in team history. She owns three of the top five totals: 312 in 2014-15 and 280 in 2013-14.
McAfee concluded her Hope career with 1,409 points and a school-record 1,047 rebounds. She is ranked third all-time with the Flying Dutch after trailing only Amanda Kerkstra (1,568 points in 107 games from 1999-2003) and Carrie Snikkers (1,430 points in 111 games from 2007-2011).
Earlier this month, McAfee received All-Great Lakes Region recognition from d3hoops.com and is eligible for All-America consideration.
McAfee earned honorable-mention All-America honors from d3hoops.com for the 2014-15 season and fourth-team All-America honors from d3hoops.com in 2013-14.
