Box Score The Hope College men's tennis team bolstered its bid for a berth in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Tournament with a 7-2 win at Albion on Tuesday.
The Flying Dutchmen clinched their fourth league victory in five tries by taking five of six singles flights from Albion.
Hope remains one game behind MIAA co-leaders Adrian and Kalamazoo. The Flying Dutchmen are two games ahead of fourth-place Calvin with league matches remaining.
At No. 2 singles, freshman Mark VanderStoep of Holland, Michigan (West Ottawa HS) topped Peter Pappas 6-2, 7-5.
At No. 3 singles, freshman Christian Rhoades of Holland, Michigan (Holland Christian HS) defeated Josh McGarry 6-1, 6-0.
At No. 4 singles, freshman Andrew Klein of Augusta, Michigan (Kalamazoo Christian HS) downed Zach McKenzie 6-1, 6-0.
At No. 5 singles, freshman Justin Folkert of Hamilton, Michigan (Hamilton HS) beat Robert Joerg 6-4, 6-2.
At No. 6 singles, junior Sam Kreps of Holland, Michigan (Holland HS) claimed a 6-1, 6-0 win against Nick Kinatchtchuk 6-1, 6-0.
Hope won two of three doubles matches.
At No. 2 doubles, Rhoades and VanderStoep earned an 8-6 win against Joerg and McGarry.
At No. 3 doubles, Folkert and Kreps teamed up for an 8-2 win against Kinatchtchuk and Pappas.
Hope (5-11 overall) returns to action on Saturday, April 23 when the Flying Dutch host Adrian at 2:30 p.m.
