Hope's Michael Kiley Selected All-MIAA First Team

Hope College's Michael Kiley established himself as one of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association's top tennis players in his first season.

The freshman from Muskegon, Michigan (Mona Shores HS) is one of six All-MIAA First Team players.

Kiley, pictured, helped the Flying Dutchmen finish second in the MIAA regular-season standings and league tournament with the youngest lineup in the MIAA. He handled No. 1 singles and played No. 1 doubles.

Kiley went 3-3 in MIAA matches as a singles player and 3-4 as a doubles player.

Hope coach Adam Ford said he admires Kiley's drive and determination.

"He's in the weight room after practice, working out and trying to get stronger," Ford said. "Every single match, he's ready to go. He works so hard. It's nice that the conference recognizes that."

Freshman Mark VanderStoep of Holland, Michigan (West Ottawa HS) was named All-MIAA Second Team.

VanderStoep played No. 2 singles and No. 2 doubles for the Flying Dutchmen. He went 5-2 in MIAA matches in doubles and 4-2 in singles.

"If you look at Mark's results, he's in every single match," Ford said. "He's got a couple of those first-teams he's played, he's been hanging with. On the fence as a first team. As a freshman, that's amazing."
