The Hope College football team is sixth in the 2016 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Preseason Coaches Poll.
The Flying Dutchmen totaled 30 points in the poll. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own team. Adrian is a narrow preseason favorite.
This is the first season for Hope under head coach Peter Stuursma '93. He is the seventh full-time head coach in Flying Dutchmen history. Stuursma returns to the college ranks after a successful 16-season run at East Grand Rapids High School that included seven state championships and an 162-34 overall record.
The Flying Dutchmen are looking to improve this season after a 2-8 overall record last season that included an 0-6 mark in MIAA play.
Hope kicks off the 2016 season with its annual Community Day game on Saturday, Sept. 3 at 1:30 p.m. against Monmouth, Illinois at Ray & Sue Smith Stadium.
The Flying Dutchmen open MIAA play on Saturday, October 1 when they host Olivet. Kickoff is 6 p.m.
