Box Score

Christian Dault's timely header propelled the Hope College men's soccer team into Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play with a boost of confidence.

The sophomore from Grand Haven, Michigan (Grand Haven HS) scored the game-winning goal in a 2-1 home victory against Benedictine, Illinois Saturday in the Cal Bergsma Memorial Tournament finale at Van Andel Soccer Stadium.

Dault, pictured, knocked in the game-winner off a free kick from sophomore James Reymann of Columbus, Ohio (Worthington Kilbourne) 2 minutes, 38 seconds into the first 10-minute, sudden-death overtime period.

Hope improved to 2-3 overall. The Flying Dutchmen kick off their MIAA season on Tuesday, Sept. 13 with a 4 p.m. match at Alma.

Hope rebounded in overtime after Benedictine (2-3) evened the score at 1-1 with a goal with 5:57 left in regulation.

The Flying Dutchmen had held the lead for 44 minutes following the first goal of the season from freshman Holden Dippel of Mason, Michigan (Mason).

Freshman goalie Blair McCormick of Wadsworth, Illinois (Warren Township) made eight saves for the Flying Dutchmen, including a second-half stop on a penalty kick.

The match featured a 30-minute lightning delay early in the second half.
