Men's Soccer Falls To Ninth-Ranked Calvin

Box Score

The Hope College men's soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision to ninth-ranked Calvin on Saturday in front of a Van Andel Soccer Stadium crowd of 1,511.

The Flying Dutchmen fell to 2-5 overall and 0-2 in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play.

"Tonight the big difference maker was we were completing our passes to them instead of to our own guys simply because we weren't willing to make that one or two extra touches to move up the field," Hope coach Steven Smith said. "I love The Rivalry, love the fact our guys want to play for The Rivalry. I don't like the fact they're dominating The Rivalry right now. I have a group of guys who haven't beaten Calvin yet. I can go back in history with four years of classes that didn't lose to Calvin. Now they're dominating. They're playing strong. They're a good side."

Freshman goalie Blair McCormick of Wadsworth, Illinois (Warren Township HS) made three saves in his first start in The Rivalry.

Calvin seized control by striking for two goals in a span of 5 ½ minutes midway through the first half for a 2-0 lead.

Hope returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 21 with a 7 p.m. match against Trine at Van Andel Soccer Stadium.
