Box Score Elizabeth Perkins scored her third goal of the young season, but the Hope College women's soccer team fell 3-1 at Wheaton, Illinois on Saturday.
The Flying Dutch (1-1 overall) gave up three unanswered goals after their senior from Eaton Rapids, Michigan (Lansing Christian HS) struck 1 minute, 50 seconds into the nonleague match with an unassisted tally.
Wheaton (1-1) tied the score midway through the first half, then seized the lead on two goals in a span in the 61st and 65th minutes. Autumn Rasmussen finished with a hat trick.
Hope outshot Wheaton by an 18-11 margin. The Flying Dutch forced the Thunder to make nine saves.
Hope returns to action on Tuesday, Sept. 6 with the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association opener at Kalamazoo at 7 p.m. The match features of the preseason MIAA coaches poll's top two teams, including the top-seeded Flying Dutch.
