Men's Tennis Drops Match For MIAA Lead To Kalamazoo

The Hope College men's tennis team dropped its Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association first-place match to 23rd-ranked Kalamazoo College 9-0 on Thursday at DeWitt Tennis Center.

The Flying Dutchmen (6-9 overall) can move into a tie for second place with Adrian on Friday with a victory against visiting Albion.

The Hope-Albion match begins at 4 p.m. Adrian is 4-1 in MIAA play, with its only league loss to the Flying Dutchmen.

Hope is 3-1 against MIAA opponents has beaten third-place Calvin, which also is 3-1 in league play.

Against Kalamazoo, junior Mark VanderStoep of Holland, Michigan (West Ottawa HS) played the closest match before falling 6-4, 2-6, 10-7 at No. 3 singles to Elan Dantus.

Dantus won the final four points in the tiebreaker.

At No. 1 doubles, Hope's pair of Michael Kiley of Muskegon, Michigan (Mona Shores) had the closest match with an 8-5 defeat to Dantus and Branden Metzler.
