Sam Allbritten's first career goal gave the Hope College men's soccer team the offense it needed for a season-opening victory against Lake Forest, Illinois at the Cal Bergsma Memorial Tournament.

The junior defender from Warsaw, Indiana (Warsaw) headed home a rebound 8 minutes, 20 seconds into the first half for a 1-0 victory on Friday at Van Andel Soccer Stadium.

Allbritten capitalized on the Flying Dutchmen's third shot on a goal in a matter of seconds.

Goalies Stephen Wilbur and Blair McCormick combined on the shutout.

Wilbur, a junior from Mokena, Illinois (Lockport Township), made three saves in the first half to be credited with the win.

McCormick, a sophomore from Wadsworth, Illinois (Warren Township), collected three saves in the second half.

Hope closes out the two-day Bergsma Memorial Tournament on Saturday, September 2 with a 5 p.m. match against Ohio Wesleyan. Calvin edged Ohio Wesleyan 2-1 in double overtime in Friday's other Bergsma Memorial Tournament match.
