Men's Soccer Blanks Alma On Youth Night

Box Score

James Reymann and the Hope College men's soccer team took over sole possession of second place in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association standings with a 2-0 win against Alma on Saturday at Van Andel Soccer Stadium.

The Flying Dutchmen capitalized on Adrian's 1-0 loss to Trine earlier in the day to separate themselves from the Bulldogs.

Hope (5-4-1 overall) is now 4-1-1 in MIAA play.

Reymann, pictured, led the Flying Dutchmen on Youth Night against Alma (0-7-3, 0-4-2) with his first goal of the season and his team-leading sixth assist of the season.

Reymann set up junior Jared Wondergem of Hudsonville, Michigan (Hudsonville HS) for a header with 1 minute, 15 seconds left in the first half to break a scoreless tie.

It was Wondergem's first goal of the season.

Reymann closed the scoring with 16:40 remaining.

The junior from Columbus, Ohio (Worthington Kilbourne) buried a penalty kick after an Alma foul under the crossbar in the top right corner of the goal.

Hope outshot Alma by a 23-11 margin.

The Flying Dutchmen's fourth shutout of the season included three saves from sophomore goalie Stephen Wilbur of Fenton, Michigan (Flint Powers Catholic).
