James Reymann and the Hope College men's soccer team took over sole possession of second place in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association standings with a 2-0 win against Alma on Saturday at Van Andel Soccer Stadium.
The Flying Dutchmen capitalized on Adrian's 1-0 loss to Trine earlier in the day to separate themselves from the Bulldogs.
Hope (5-4-1 overall) is now 4-1-1 in MIAA play.
Reymann, pictured, led the Flying Dutchmen on Youth Night against Alma (0-7-3, 0-4-2) with his first goal of the season and his team-leading sixth assist of the season.
Reymann set up junior Jared Wondergem of Hudsonville, Michigan (Hudsonville HS) for a header with 1 minute, 15 seconds left in the first half to break a scoreless tie.
It was Wondergem's first goal of the season.
Reymann closed the scoring with 16:40 remaining.
The junior from Columbus, Ohio (Worthington Kilbourne) buried a penalty kick after an Alma foul under the crossbar in the top right corner of the goal.
Hope outshot Alma by a 23-11 margin.
The Flying Dutchmen's fourth shutout of the season included three saves from sophomore goalie Stephen Wilbur of Fenton, Michigan (Flint Powers Catholic).
