The Hope College men's soccer team suffered a 1-0 loss at Trine University on Saturday that knocked the Flying Dutchmen out of contention for a first-round bye in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Tournament.
The loss was just the second of the season for Hope (12-2-1 overall, 3-2-1 MIAA).
The Flying Dutchmen outshot Trine by an 11-7 margin but were shut out for the second time this season.
The Thunder grabbed a 1-0 lead 24 minutes, 58 seconds into the first half on Kyle Wainscott's unassisted goal.
Goalie Blair McCormick of Wadsworth, Illinois (Warren Township HS) made four saves.
Trine (11-3-1, 4-2 MIAA) overtook Hope for third place in the MIAA standings.
The Flying Dutchmen's next match is Tuesday, October 23 at 7 p.m. against Adrian College at Van Andel Soccer Stadium. It is the regular-season finale. Hope has clinched a berth in the MIAA Tournament.
