Women's Basketball To Host Cornell, Iowa In NCAA Tournament Opener

The fourth-ranked Hope College women's basketball team will begin its pursuit of a national title on its home court at DeVos Fieldhouse.

The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association regular-season co-champion and tournament champion Flying Dutch will host first- and second-round games Friday and Saturday.

Hope will face Cornell (Iowa) in Friday's second game at 7:30 p.m. Washington-St. Louis and Wheaton (Illinois) will meet in the first game at 5:30 p.m. 

Winners advance to Saturday's 7 p.m. second-round game to play for a sectional berth.

Tickets cost $10 for adults and $5 for youth ages 3-18. Children 2 & under are free. Tickets can be purchased in advance at the Hope College ticket office, 100 East Eighth Street, weekdays between 9 a.m.-5 p.m. or by calling (616) 395-7890, or at DeVos Fieldhouse on game days 1 hour before tipoff. All seating is general admission in designated sections. There are no online sales. Tickets for Saturday's game will be sold to advancing teams after Friday's games.

Head coach Brian Morehouse, in his 22nd season, has led the Flying Dutch to their 19th NCAA Tournament appearance and sixth in a row. It is the longest postseason-qualifying streak in team history.

Hope is aiming for its fourth Final Four appearance and third national title. The Flying Dutch were national champions in 1990 under head coach Sue Wise and 2006 under Morehouse. They were also national runner-up in 2011 under Morehouse.
