The Hope College men's tennis team closed its spring break trip with a 5-4 victory against Hamilton (N.Y.) on Thursday at the United States Tennis Association National Campus in Orlando, Florida.
The Flying Dutchmen captured four singles flights en route to the nonleague victory.
Junior Mark VanderStoep of Holland, Michigan (West Ottawa) won at No. 1 singles 7-5, 7-6 (5) over Jafar Sharipov.
At No. 2 singles, junior Michael Kiley of Muskegon, Michigan (Mona Shores) defeated Andrew Wei 6-2, 6-0.
At No. 5 singles, sophomore Matt Werkman of Jenison, Michigan (Hudsonville Unity Christian) topped Josh Caplan 6-2, 6-2.
At No. 6 singles, sophomore Alec Berrodin of Grand Rapids, Michigan (Forest Hills Northern), pictured, beat Matt Zeitler 6-2, 6-2.
At No. 3 doubles, Berrodin and junior Christian Erickson of Waukesha, Wisconsin (Catholic Memorial) down Matt May and Eamon Gibbons 8-6.
Hope (3-7 overall) bounced back from losing 8-1 to Denison (Ohio) earlier in the day. VanderStoep and sophomore Danny Kreuze of Holland, Michigan (Holland Christian) earned a point at No. 2 doubles with an 8-3 victory against Mitchell Thai and Blake Burstein.
