Women's Soccer Rolls to 3-0 Win Over Olivet

Box Score

Megan Bigelow poses for a headshot. Scoring the most goals in a single game thus far this season, the Hope College women's soccer team downed Olivet College, 3-0, at Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet on Saturday.

The shutout was Hope's fifth of the season. The victory in the league match moves the Flying Dutch's MIAA record to 1-0-1. Hope is 2-3-5 overall.

Hope's first goal resulted from offensive pressure after a Flying Dutch corner kick that led to an Olivet own goal at the 22:03 mark. A little over seven minutes, though, senior midfielder Megan Bigelow of Flushing, Michigan (Flushing HS), pictured, scored her first goal of the season off of an assist by junior Corinne Cole of Saint Paul, Minnesota (Eastview).

At halftime, Hope led, 2-0.

Twenty minutes into the second half, junior Audrey White of Hudsonville, Michigan (Hudsonville) scored Hope's third goal unassisted. It was White's second goal of the season.

Hope dominated the offensive stats with a 13-5 advantage in shots and a 11-3 advantage in shots on goal. The Flying Dutch took two more corner kicks than the Comets, 5-3.

Junior goalie Jordanne Ellingboe of Grand Haven, Michigan (Grand Haven HS) made three saves.

Olivet slipped to 0-2 in the MIAA with a 4-5 overall mark.

The Flying Dutch will now wait a week to compete again in the MIAA. Hope will travel to Calvin University on Saturday, Oct. 12 for a 4:30 p.m. game.
