Box Score 2 The Hope College men's tennis team dropped a pair of non-league home matches on Saturday.
The Flying Dutchmen fell to No. 12 Case Western Reserve University (Ohio), 9-0, in the afternoon at DeWitt Tennis Center after losing to Augustana College (Illinois), 7-2, in the morning.
Against Augustana, Hope picked up one point apiece in singles and doubles play.
At No. 5 singles, freshman Tyler Koran of Salinas, California (Salinas HS) defeated Augustana's Justin Cassens, 6-4, 6-4.
At No. 1 doubles, senior Danny Kroeze of Holland, MIchigan (Holland Christian) and freshman Jacob Burkett of Clarkston, Michigan (Clarkston) topped Augustana's Peter Ale and Sriram Sugumaran, 8-6.
Against Case Western Reserve, the Flying Dutchmen pushed two singles matches to three sets.
At No .1 singles, Burkett lost to Matthew Chen 6-7 (10), 6-4, 11-9.
At No. 3 singles, freshman Cameron Coates of Stevensville, Michigan (Laurel Springs) went the distance with Diego Maza before falling 4-6, 6-3, 10-7.
Hope (1-5 overall) returns to action on Saturday, February 22 with two road matches in Ohio against Wittenberg University (Ohio) and Earlham College (Indiana).
