The Hope College men's tennis team blanked Trine University on Saturday in Angola, Indiana, 9-0. It was the fourth time the Flying Dutchmen swept a league opponent this spring.
Hope remains undefeated in the MIAA at 5-0 and has an overall record of 5-6. Trine is 3-2 in the league and 10-5 overall.
At No. 1 singles, sophomore Jacob Burkett of Clarkston, Michigan (Clarkston HS) defeated Trine's Isaac Everitt, 6-1, 6-0.
At No. 2 singles, sophomore Cameron Coates of Stevensville, Michigan (Laurel Springs) recorded a 6-1, 6-3 victory against Trine's Aaron Streit, 6-3, 6-1.
At No. 3 singles, sophomore Tyler Stafford of Grand Rapids, Michigan (Grand Rapids Christian) downed Trine's Jaxon Davis, 6-3, 6-1.
At No. 4 singles, sophomore Tyler Koran of Salinas, California (Salinas) topped Trine's Ryan Smith, 6-2,7-6 (7-4).
At No. 5 singles, sophomore Paul Washington of Dearborn, Michigan (Dearborn) beat Trine's Drew Dixon, 6-2,6-2.
At No. 6 singles, sophomore Matt Henkel of Traverse City, Michigan (Central HS) earned a 6-3, 7-5 victory against Trine's Alex Mullet.
In doubles play, Hope's No. 1 pair of Burkett and Henkel were victorious, 8-4, over Streit and Smith; Hope's No. 2 pair of Stafford and Washington won 8-1 over Davis and Dixon; and Hope's No. 3 pair of Coates and Koran served up a 8-6 victory against Everitt and Eric Gaby.
Hope's next match is Friday, April 23 at Kalamazoo College. Both teams are unbeaten in the league. Match time is 4 p.m.
