Brandon Fles was tired of the scoreless game and had no plans to play a second overtime.
The Hope College sophomore defender scored with 1:58 left in overtime to give the Flying Dutchmen a 1-0 win over host Heidelberg University on Saturday afternoon. The goal was assisted by freshman Mario Hrvojevic (Lincolnwood, Illinois / Loyola Academy).
The Flying Dutchmen have won four games in a row and improved to 4-1-1 after the non-conference win.
It was just the second career goal for Fles (Spring Lake, Michigan / Western Michigan Christian HS), pictured, and the first career point for Hrvojevic.
Hope goalkeeper Daniel Hesselbein was strong in net, stopping all six shots to earn the shutout.
It is the fourth time the freshman (Barrington, Illinois / Barrington Community HS) has had a shutout in six games this season.
Hope returns to play on Wednesday when it travels north of Chicago to play North Park University at 8:30 p.m. EST.
