Volleyball Claims Victory Over Wheaton On The Road

The Hope College volleyball team rebounded in a big way as the Flying Dutch downed Wheaton College (Ill.) in a 3-0 road win on Saturday.

The 15th-ranked Flying Dutch improved to 11-4 overall this season with a 25-22, 25-21, 25-21 victory.

In the first set, Hope went up 4-1 over Wheaton in the first set and never look back as there were no ties, or lead changes. The second set saw Wheaton grab the 4-1 lead to start, with the Flying Dutch regaining the lead at 6-5 and running away with the win in the second set.

In the third set the Thunder put up a fight, grabbing a seven-point run taking them from 10 points to 16 points to gain the lead over the Flying Dutch. However an answer was served as Hope had their own seven-point streak to overtake the Thunder lead and win the final set.

Hope was led in kills by sophomore Annie Lockett (Mason, Ohio / William Mason HS) with 13.

Seniors Charlotte Brecht (Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan / Grosse Pointe South) and Emma Post (Hudsonville, Michigan / Hudsonville) recorded 12 and 8 kills, respectively.

Freshman Lauren Lee (Ann Arbor, Michigan / Skyline) had a game and team-high 39 assists for Hope, and junior Olivia Fiebing (Traverse City, Michigan / Central) tallied 15 digs in the win.

Hope returns to home court on Tuesday, Oct. 4, as the Flying Dutch welcome Saint Mary's College to DeVos Fieldhouse for a 7 p.m. matchup.
