Volleyball Serves Up Winning Start to Weekend in Boston

The 14th-ranked Flying Dutch won at Endicott College in three sets.

The 14th-ranked Hope College volleyball team started a memorable weekend in Boston on a winning note.

The Flying Dutch won at 11-win Endicott College (Mass.) in three sets on Friday, taking the match 25-22, 25-18, 25-22.

Hope, which improved to 13-4 overall, will face Bates College (Maine) and 24th-ranked Tufts University (Mass.) at Tufts on Saturday, Oct. 8, at 2:30 p.m. and 5 p.m., respectively.

Bates is coached by Emily Hayes '14, who was a student assistant coach on Hope's 2013 team that reached the NCAA Division III Elite Eight.

Against Endicott, the Flying Dutch followed the attacking trio of sophomore Annie Lockett, senior Emma Post and sophomore Alison DeWeerd.

Lockett (Mason, Ohio / William Mason HS) recorded a match-high 17 kills with a .400 attack percentage.

Post (Hudsonville, Michigan / Hudsonville) totaled 10 kills with a .250 attack percentage.

DeWeerd (Kentwood, Michigan / South Christian added nine kills and two blocks with a .262 attack percentage.

Hope out-hit Endicott (11-4) by a .287 to .217 margin. 

Freshman Lauren Lee (Plymouth, Michigan / Ann Arbor Skyline) directed the Flying Dutch offense with 45 assists.

Sophomore Grace Marshall (DeWitt, Michigan / DeWitt) and junior Olivia Fiebing (Traverse City, Michigan / Central) led the Hope defense with 13 and 11 digs, respectively.
