Men's Soccer Falls In MIAA Championship Game To Calvin

The Hope College men's soccer team fell in the MIAA Tournament championship game to No. 17-ranked Calvin University, 3-0, on Saturday in Grand Rapids.

The Flying Dutchmen ended the season with a 7-5-6 overall record.

The two foes were deadlocked at zero at halftime, but just four minutes into the second half Calvin, the No. 1 seed in the MIAA Tournament, put in the go-ahead goal and eventual game-winner off a penalty kick.

Calvin found two more goals during second half play, their second goal coming approximately a minute after the first, while the third goal was touched in with under five minutes remaining in the half.

Throughout the first half of the game, Hope, who entered the tournament as the No. 2 seed, held the pressure on the Knights in the offensive side of the field to assist in keeping the scoreboard knotted at zero.

Sophomore Keegan DeKuiper (Muskegon, Michigan / Mona Shores HS) made two saves in net during the championship rivalry matchup, while freshman Seth Walters (St. Joseph, Michigan / St. Joseph) and junior Ethan Jansen (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Forest Hills Northern) each soared four shots a piece for scoring opportunities through 90 minutes of play.

The Flying Dutchmen outshot the Knights 15-10.
