The Hope College women's basketball team trumped Great Lakes Christian College 100-43 on Thursday night at DeVos Fieldhouse.
The Flying Dutch were paced by the bench, with 69 of Hope's 100 points tallied by non-starters to improve the Orange and Blue to 8-0 this season.
"Credit to our bench, they've practiced all year long and today was a great chance for them to show what they've been working on," said assistant coach Courtney Kust.
In the eighth win of the season, freshman Sydney Vis (Byron Center, Michigan / South Christian HS) topped her career-high game points with 19 to lead the Flying Dutch to victory. Vis knocked down three of four attempts behind the three-point line, and went seven of eight from the field. Freshman Karsen Karlblom (Crystal Lake, Illinois / Prairie Ridge) picked up 10 points in the win. Senior Ella McKinney (Haslett, Michigan / Haslett) and freshman Keegan Kaiser (New Albany, Indiana / Floyd Central) each netted nine points to assist in the 100-point win.
Freshman Hannah Kurncz (DeWitt, Michigan / DeWitt) had a game-high five assists and senior Kate Majerus (Sycamore, Illinois / Sycamore) grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.
The Flying Dutch held the Crusaders to just seven points in the second quarter after a slower than average start to the offense.
"I think our bench energy was good to start the game, and we didn't play our best quarter, i think we started a little slow, and then in the second quarter we picked it up on defense and got more deflections, which led to some of our offense," said Kust.
