Box Score

by Alan Babbitt

On the road again, the Hope College women's basketball team just can't wait to get on the road again.

The life the Flying Dutch love right now is making wins with their friends.

In a stretch of four road games to close the regular season, No. 2/3 ranked Hope won for the third time on Wednesday by defeating Adrian College, 75-45.

The Flying Dutch moved within one victory of at least a share of a league title. Hope (22-1, 14-1 MIAA) travels to Kalamazoo College on Saturday, Feb. 19, for a 3 p.m. game.

"It was good to win on the road after a long trip," head coach Brian Morehouse said. "We're facing a lot of games on the road in a row. We're battlikng through the MIAA schedule."

The Flying Dutch are tied for first place with No. 3/5 Trine University. Trine (21-2, 14-1 MIAA) plays at Adrian (8-15, 5-10 MIAA) on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Kenedy Schoonveld poses for a portrait. Against Adrian, senior Kenedy Schoonveld, pictured, topped Hope with 16 points. The guard from Zeeland, Michigan (Holland Christian HS) shot 60 percent from the field (6-10) and sank both of her 3-point attempts.

The Flying Dutch overcame an early 6-2 deficit 2 1/2 minutes into the game.

A 3-pointer from junior guard Meg Morehouse (Zeeland, Michigan / Zeeland East) put Hope ahead for good at 11-10 with 4:52 remaining in the first quarter. The Flying Dutch extended their lead with 17-12 by the end of the quarter and 39-21 by halftime.

Morehouse was one of five Flying Dutch to score at least seven points.

Junior guard Claire Baguley (Ada, Michigan / Forest Hills Central) chipped in nine points. Junior forward Savannah Feenstra (Osceola, Indiana / Northwood) added eight points.

Senior guard Sydney Muller (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Grand Rapids Christian) also had seven points.

Hope shot 37.7 percent from the field to Adrian's 31.6. The Flying Dutch did make seven 3-pointers, while the Bulldogs missed all 13 of their 3-point attempts.
