Sydney Muller Chosen as the MIAA Women's Basketball Athlete of the Week

by Mackenzie McMahon

Hope College's Sydney Muller is the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Women's Basketball Athlete of the Week.

The guard from Grand Rapids, Michigan (Grand Rapids Christian HS) is receiving the honor for the first time this season and third time in her career.

Muller averaged 11.7 points, 2.4 assists and 2.7 steals over three Flying Dutch victories last week during the MIAA Tournament, en route to becoming the champions of the MIAA, and punching their ticket to the NCAA DIII Tournament in March.

The exercise science major went 3-7 in the field, and made both free throws in the 90-41 win over St. Mary's College on Wednesday in the quarter finals. Muller scored 8 points and tallied three assists and two steals.

During a 68-42 win at home versus Calvin in The Rivalry on Friday, Muller scored a team-high 12 points. The senior collected two assists and recorded two steals as well as shooting 60% from the field and sinking two three-pointers and all four free throw attempts.

The MIAA championship game saw a 15 point night from Muller, which in turn, helped lead the Flying Dutch to their auto bid into the NCAA Tournament. The senior guard had a team-high 15 points in the 54-50 win over regular season MIAA co-champion Trine University. Muller collected a total of 11 rebounds, 8 of them being defensive, and as for shooting, the starter went 5-10 in the field, and made 5-8 free throws while creating four turnovers against the Thunder.
