Sophomores Logan DeWitt and Will Robson both carded 5-over-par 77s to lead the Hope College men's golf team during the opening round of the NCAA Division III Championships on Tuesday.
The Flying Dutchmen are in 22nd place out of 43 teams after shooting a team score of 312 on the El Campeon course at Mission Inn Resort and Club in Howie-in-the-Hills, Florida.
Carnegie Mellon University (Pa.) fired an even-par 288 on the 6,748-yard El Campeon to grab the first-round lead.
All teams switch courses for the second round on Wednesday, May 11. Hope will tee off on the 6,792-yard Las Calinas course at 7:30 a.m.
DeWitt (Zeeland, Michigan / Holland Christian HS), pictured right, and Robson (Grand Rapids, Michigan / East Grand Rapids), pictured far right, are eight strokes off the individual lead.
Freshman Jack Guerrera (Northville, Michigan / Detroit Catholic Central) chipped in a 78 for the Flying Dutchmen.
Junior Jack Crawford (Carmel, Indiana / Carmel) shot an 80.
Freshman Ben Jackson (Fort Wayne, Indiana / Carroll) had an 85.
