The Flying Dutch received two first-place votes.

The Hope College women's soccer team is projected to challenge for a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association title this fall.

The Flying Dutch finished runner-up with the 2022 MIAA Preseason Coaches Poll with 17 points and two first-place votes.

Four teams received at least one first-place vote, including preseason favorite Calvin University, which totaled 15 points and four first-place votes. Coaches could not vote for their own teams.

Trine University placed third with 20 points and two first-place votes. Albion College took fourth with 24 points and one first-place vote. The remainder of the poll featured Kalamazoo College (37 points), Adrian College (41), Alma College (51), Saint Mary's College (59), and Olivet College (60).

Led by head coach Leigh Sears, the Flying Dutch are coming off a 13-5-2 season that included an MIAA Tournament title and the eighth NCAA Division III Championships appearance in team history.

Defender Jenna Mustapha is Hope's returning all-league honoree. The junior chemistry major from Ada, Michigan (Forest Hills Northern HS) is a two-time, All-MIAA First Team selection.

The Flying Dutch kick off the 2022 season on Friday, September 2, with a 4 p.m. home match against Wheaton College (Ill.) at Van Andel Soccer Stadium.

Hope's first MIAA game is Wednesday, September 28, at 4 p.m. at Adrian College.
