Three Selected as MIAA Athletes of the Week

Three Hope College student-athletes have been named MIAA Athletes of the Week for their performances during the week of September 5-11: men's golfer Liam Casey, football linebacker Adam Gill, and men's soccer goalie Daniel Hesselbein.

All three are receiving the recognition for the first time.

Casey shot 1-under par over 72 holes last week. On Tuesday, the freshman from Northville, Michigan (Detroit Catholic Central HS) finished even-par at Aurora Country Club (72-72—144) to earn medalist honors at the Aurora University (Ill.) Invitation.

On Friday and Saturday, Casey fired rounds of 72 and three-under 69 at Randall Oaks Golf Club in West Dundee, Illinois. to place ninth in the field at 141 at the Carthage University (Wis.) Fall Classic.

Gill recorded eight tackles, forced two turnovers and scored a defensive touchdown during a 33-24 victory against Coe College (Iowa) at Ray and Sue Smith Stadium.

The senior business major from Grand Rapids, Michigan (Forest Hills Northern) returned a fumble 41 yards for a touchdown, intercepted a pass and forced a fumble.

Hesselbein totaled 10 saves to help the Flying Dutchmen earn two ties last week, including one against a nationally-ranked opponent.

The sophomore physical and health education major from Barrington, Illinois (Barrington Community) made seven saves during a 1-1 draw at No. 21 Ohio Wesleyan University on Friday and three saves during a 0-0 draw against Hanover College (Ind.) on Saturday at Ohio Wesleyan.
