The Hope College women's soccer team completed a dominant win over North Park University, 6-1, outshooting the visitors 25-3.
The victory at Van Andel Soccer Stadium moves the Flying Dutch to 3-0-1 on the season.
Senior Kealeigh Usiak (Dimondale, Michigan / Lansing Christian HS) started the scoring for Hope on a corner kick, one of nine during the Wednesday evening game. Usiak, a communication and computer science major, sent a bending kick towards the mass in front of the net, where the North Park goaltender would ultimately miss the jumping punch to clear the ball, and Usiak's kick would finish in the net.
Ten minutes later into the first half, senior Emma Dutmers (Traverse City, Michigan / Traverse City Central) picks up her fourth goal of the season to give Hope a 2-0 lead. Senior Cassidy Broekhuizen (Byron Center, Michigan / South Christian) would send a pass from midfield up the middle to a sprinting Dutmers. Upon catching up to the ball, Dutmers fired a shot past the opposing netminder in a leaping bound to increase the orange and blue's lead.
Just six minutes into the second half, the crowd of 290 would see another Hope College goal, this time from junior Natalie Hammer. The Rockford, Michigan (Rockford) native found herself with the ball at the top of the penalty box and soared one up and over the diving arms of the North Park goaltender to increase the home team's lead to three.
In her second goal of the night, Dutmers would get Hope's second corner kick goal in the victory. Sophomore Breck McCloskey (Ada, Michigan / Forest Hills Eastern) sent one from the corner to Dutmers who would send Hope's fourth goal of the night in off of a leaping header.
On yet another midfield pass up the middle of the field, junior Elisa Melville (Jackson, Michigan / Lumen Christi) found junior Anna Biebel (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Forest Hills Northern) mid-sprint, who would continue on to beat the Vikings' goaltender with a simple kick through netminder Emily LaSalle's legs.
North Park would find their only goal of the game four minutes after Hope's fifth goal which came off of a corner kick.
The final score of the night came from Melville, as freshman Grace McNabnay (Middleville, Michigan / Thornapple-Kellog) sent a soft pass over the top of the penalty box where Melville rocketed a one-time shot on net that the goalkeeper couldn't keep in front of her.
The Flying Dutch head out on the road for a six game stretch, with a game against North Central (Ill.) on Saturday, September 17 at noon.
