Third-Ranked Volleyball Moves Closer to MIAA Title

The Hope College volleyball team moved a few serves closer to becoming MIAA regular-season champion.

The third-ranked Flying Dutch won in three sets at Alma College on Tuesday and raised their record to 21-1 overall and 6-0 in MIAA play.

After the 25-12, 25-17, 25-16 road victory, Hope needs a win at The University of Olivet on Wednesday, Nov. 1, at 6:30 p.m. to clinch at least a share of an MIAA title as well as the top seed for the MIAA Tournament.

Against Alma, the Flying Dutch recorded 42 kills during the match to the Scots' 14.

Junior Addie VanderWeide (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Grand Rapids Christian) and sophomore Ella Contant (Elmhurst, Illinois / York Community) led a balanced attack with eight kills apiece with only three combined attack errors between them.

Sophomore Brooke Fox (Saunenim, Illinois / Pontiac Township) collected seven kills.

Juniors Liz VanderSlice (Wyoming, Michigan / Grandville HS) and Alison DeWeerd (Kentwood, Michigan / South Christian) added six and five kills, respectively.

Sophomore Lauren Lee (Plymouth, Michigan / Saline) recorded 29 assists and four kills.

Senior Olivia Fiebing (Traverse City, Michigan / Central) totaled team-bests with 18 digs and three service aces.

Hope's next matches are Friday, Oct. 27, at 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. Central at North Park University (Ill.). The Flying Dutch face sixth-ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in Friday's opener and No. 19 North Park in the finale.

On Saturday, Oct. 28, Hope plays at No. 9 Calvin University at 5 p.m. in a match that will not count toward the MIAA standings.
