Men's Cross Country Places 15th at Pre-National Meet

The Hope College men's cross country team raced to a 15th-place finish at the 38-team Pre-National Meet in Newville, Pennsylvania.

The event was held at Big Spring High School, the site of next month's NCAA Division III Championships.

Junior Connor Vachon (Jenison, Michigan / Jenison HS) clocked the Flying Dutchmen's best performance with a 56th-place, 8K run of 25 minutes, 53.6 seconds.

The field was comprised of 377 runners.

Freshman Ian Petruska (Fort Collins, Colorado / Fort Collins) finished 73rd with a time of 26:02.6.

Other Hope placers were:
  • 109. Sophomore Carston Cole (Holland, Michigan / West Ottawa), 26:27.1;
  • 141. Senior Gabe DeYoung (Saegertown, Pennsylvania / Saegertown), 26:49.3;
  • 145. Sophomore Chad Perrine (Jackson, Michigan / Jackson), 26:51.5;
  • 150. Senior Eli Meder (Williamston, Michigan / Lansing Catholic).
Eighth-ranked MIT won the meet with 71 points. 

The regionally-ranked Flying Dutchmen finished with 486 points.

Wilmington University (Ohio) senior Simon Heys took first individually by posting a run of 24:46.2.

Hope's next meets will be on Saturday, Oct. 14, at 11:45 a.m. CDT at the Augustana College (Illinois) Interregional Invite and at 1:30 p.m. at the Muskegon Community College Invite.
