Dylan Clem and Nick Flegler Selected to D3football.com All-Region Teams

Two members of the Hope College football team have been voted to the 19th D3football.com all-region teams.

Offensive guard Dylan Clem (Stevensville, Michigan / Lakeshore HS) made the first team, while safety Nick Flegler (DeWitt, Michigan / DeWitt) earned a spot on the second team.

Players were nominated for these awards by the sports information directors at various schools. In total, 1,129 players were nominated.

All-Region teams are selected in balloting by sports information directors in each region and D3football.com staff. All players nominated for All-Region are eligible to be considered for the D3football.com All-America Team.

The 2023 D3football.com All-America team will be announced Friday, Dec. 15, at the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl. 

Both Clem and Flegler helped Hope finish with an 8-2 overall record, including a second-place 5-1 mark in MIAA play.

Clem's blocking powered the Flying Dutchmen to a league-best 230.0 rushing yards per game. At right guard, the senior civil engineering major did not allow a sack. Hope averaged 38.1 points per game, second-highest among MIAA teams.

"I am extremely proud of Dylan for his incredible work ethic, his leadership, and his incredible compete factor," head coach Peter Stuurmsa said. "Dylan has great feet and can run block with power."

Flegler topped the Hope defense with 62 tackles and five interceptions. While playing both cornerback and safety, the sophomore also forced two fumbles and recovered one fumble.

"I am really proud of Nick, as he is one of the more gifted athletes we have coached here at Hope College," Stuursma said. "He is fast, tough, and plays with a really high football IQ."
