Box Score The Hope College men's tennis team dropped a 5-4 match to Lawrence Tech at DeWitt Tennis Center on Saturday.
Hope got on the board with an 8-3 win in No. 1 doubles win from seniors Cameron Coates (Stevensville, Michigan / Laurel Springs HS) and Jacob Burkett before Lawrence Tech would take wins in both No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to start the match.
Burkett (Clarkston, Michigan / Clarkston) tallied a three-set win at No. 1 singles after dropping the first set to his Lawrence Tech opponent.
Hope was defeated in the No. 2 - 4 singles slots before senior Matt Henkel (Traverse City, Michigan / Traverse City Central) topped his opponent in No. 5 singles in yet another three-set thriller win.
Sophomore Austin Becksvoort (Holland, Michigan / Holland Christian) brought the Flying Dutchmen's fourth point of the match at No. 6 singles, sweeping his Lawrence Tech foe in two sets, 6-2 and 6-2.
Hope moved to 1-4 overall this season.
The Flying Dutchmen hit the court again on Friday, March 3, at 4 p.m. as they travel to North Central College (Ill.).
