A battle Royale for the Hope College women's lacrosse team ended with the blue and orange emerging victorious.
Junior Maddie Yakes (Rockford, Michigan / Rockford HS) shined in net, making 11 saves while the University of the South fired off a total of 35 shots in Hope's 13-11 victory on Tuesday night in a game that was tied eight different times.
With 7:48 left to play in the first period, Hope found themselves down by two goals when a three-goal run sparked the first lead for the Flying Dutch of the night.
Sophomore Kerrigan Brown (DeWitt, Michigan / DeWitt) highlighted the second period as she tallied three of her four goals of the night. Two of those goals in the second stanza came within the last 1:03 of play, within thirty seconds of other to put Hope up 7-5 at the half.
Sewanee took charge and the lead back after the third quarter, where they would grab four of the six goals put in during the third.
Sophomore Juli Kirkpatrick (Granger, Indiana / Penn) notched three consecutive goals to finish out the scoring for the game, pushing the Flying Dutch back into the lead for good, 13-11.
The Hope defense held off the home team for the last 2:24 of the game to pick up the third win of the season.
Brown led Hope with a team-high four goals, while freshman Julia Brown (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Forest Hills Central) had a game-high six assists in the Flying Dutch victory.
Hope takes the field again on Thursday, March 23 at 4 p.m. as they take on Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee.
