The Hope College men's tennis team served up a dominating 8-1 win over Adrian in the MIAA league opener on the road.
Saturday's win over the Bulldogs was highlighted by a sweep of singles play.
Both the No. 1 and No. 2 singles wins each came after battling through three sets. Senior Jacob Burkett (Clarkston, Michigan / Clarkston HS) grabbed first- and third-set wins over his Adrian opponent.
Senior Tyler Stafford (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Grand Rapids Christian) brought home the win at No. 2 singles with a three-set win of his own.
The No. 3 singles slot was won by senior Cameron Coates (Stevensville, Michigan / Laurel Springs).
Senior Matt Henkel (Traverse City, Michigan / Traverse City Central) took down his opponent in the No. 4 singles spot with 6-2 and 6-0 wins.
Sophomore Austin Becksvoort (Holland, Michigan / Holland Christian) and junior John Voss (Cincinnati, Ohio / St. Xavier) rounded out the singles wins at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively.
Two of three doubles matches were won by the Flying Dutchmen.
No. 2 doubles collected an 8-3 win with Stafford and Henkel at the helm, while Becksvoort and sophomore Brendan Evert (Sterling Heights, Michigan / Sterling Heights) took down their Bulldog opponent at No. 3 singles 8-3 as well.
Hope continues on with MIAA play on Wednesday, March 29, at 4 p.m. at the VandePoel-Heeringa Stadium Courts.
