Women's Tennis Tops Saint Mary's in Matchup of MIAA Unbeatens

A fifth consecutive victory kept the Hope College women's tennis team as one of three remaining unbeatens in MIAA play.

The Flying Dutch served up a 7-2 victory against Saint Mary's College on Friday that raised Hope's record to 8-5 overall and 3-0 in league play.

The loss was Saint Mary's first in four league matches. Two other MIAA teams have yet to lose a league match: Kalamazoo College at 4-0 and Trine University at 1-0.

The Flying Dutch seized control of the match early by sweeping doubles.

At No. 1 doubles, freshman Amanda Lopykinski (Lemont, Illinois / Lemont Township HS) and sophomore Sullivan Moran (Birmingham, Michigan / Groves) cruised to an 8-1 victory.

At No. 2 doubles, the Flying Dutch earned their second point with an 8-3 victory from sophomore Miyako Coffey (Cedar Rapids, Iowa / Xavier) and senior Taylor Truman (Hudsonville, Michigan / Hudsonville).

At No. 3 doubles, junior Annika Weeber (Rockford, Michigan / Grand Rapids Christian) and senior Delanie Riebschleger (Rockford, Michigan / Rockford) earned an 8-4 victory.

Hope clinched the match by taking the top two flights.

Lopykinski scored a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles. Moran then claimed a 6-4, 6-1 victory at No. 2 singles.

At No. 3 singles, Weeber earned a 6-2, 6-4 victory for the Flying Dutch.

At No. 5 singles, freshman Hope Rhoades (Holland, Michigan / Holland Christian) picked up Hope's final point with a 6-4, 6-2 victory.
