Tucker Martinez, Men's Lacrosse
Late in the 2022 season, Martinez tore his Achilles and was sidelined for the rest of the year. He battled back to be ready for the year and was able to start on defense for the Flying Dutchmen in the 2023 season opener.Â
Harris Hawkins, Men's Basketball
For the second time in his first three years at Hope, Hawkins suffered a season-ending injury in 2022 when he tore his ACL in the first game of his junior season. His persistence and dedication motivated him through rehab again so he could get back to the team. Through it all, his attitude and positive commitment as a teammate was remarkable. During a stretch of significant injuries for the Flying Dutchmen this year, Hawkins came off the bench at Kalamazoo, scoring a career-high 12 points and grabbing seven rebounds in a key road win.Â
Ian Rampersad, Football
During week nine of the 2021 season, Rampersad suffered a dislocated and broken ankle that required surgery. He worked diligently in the offseason to be ready to return for the Flying Dutchmen. Playing as a wide receiver in seven games this year, Rampersad recorded 23 catches for 313 total yards and one touchdown.Â
Shane Hykin, Baseball
In the 2022 season, Hykin returned to the mound after a shoulder injury. As the closing pitcher, he led the team with 15 appearances and had six saves. He played a key role in the MIAA championship season for the Flying Dutchmen. Â
