Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse | | Alan Babbitt

Julia Brown-Led Women's Lacrosse Cruises Past Alma, Grabs Outright MIAA Lead

Attacker Julia Brown delivered for the Hope College women's lacrosse team on Saturday, scoring a career-high seven goals during a 20-6 victory at Alma College.

The Flying Dutch remained undefeated in MIAA play after winning their third league game. After Saint Mary's College won at Calvin University, 12-9, Hope took over sole possession of first place in the MIAA standings.

Brown helped the Flying Dutch seize control early by netting five goals and assisting another that resulted in a 13-3 halftime lead.

The freshman from Grand Rapids, Michigan (Forest Hills Central HS) finished with a career-high nine points on seven goals and two assists.

Saturday marked the fifth time a member of the Flying Dutch collected at least seven goals in a game and the first since Elena Salazar set a school record with eight vs. Saint Mary's on April 8, 2022.

The Flying Dutch finished with at least 20 goals for the second consecutive game.

Brown leads Hope with 30 goals and 19 assists this season.

Two of Brown's teammates chipped in three goals and one assist apiece: Salazar and freshman midfielder Sydney LaPrairie (Rochester, Michigan / Stoney Creek).

Salazar tied Hope's career goal-scoring mark. The junior attacker from Howell, Michigan (Hartland) has 125 goals in 39 games, equaling record-holder Carly Pieri (2018-21).

Sophomores Kerrigan Brown (DeWitt, Michigan / DeWitt) and Juli Kirkpatrick (Granger, Indiana / Penn) also were multi-goal scorers for the Flying Dutch with two apiece.

Hope's next game is Wednesday, April 19, at 6 p.m. vs. Albion College at Van Andel Soccer Stadium.
