In a dominant performance, the Hope College softball team swept the Olivet College Comets with scores of 13-0 and 9-1 in two five-inning games on the road on Wednesday.Â
Hope collected 20 hits during the doubleheader while improving to 4-4 in league play and 18-12-1 overall.
The first game saw a strong start from Hope, with a three-run first inning.Â
Junior
Sydney Zombo (Clinton Township, Michigan / Fraser HS) knocked in the first run with a groundout. Senior
Haley Bennett (Livonia, Michigan / Benjamin Franklin) then singled to center field to score junior
Kyra Acker (Eaton Rapids, Michigan / Eaton Rapids). Junior
Grace Henry (Hudsonville, Michigan / Hudsonville) then singled to center field, scoring Bennett.
Hope delivered another big inning in the third, scoring five runs to take an 8-0 lead.Â
Freshman
Mya Spisz (Oxford, Michigan / Oxford) slammed a home run in the fourth inning for Hope's 11th run.Â
On the circle, junior reliever
Jennaka Bultman (Shawnee, Kansas / Shawnee Mission) collected the win for Hope in 2 2/3Â innings pitched. Bultman struck out six.Â
In the second game, junior
Peyton Benjamin (Eaton Rapids, Michigan / Eaton Rapids) led Hope with four hits in four at-bats in the 9-1 victory.
Zombo and Spisz had a team-high two RBIs each.Â
Bultman snagged her second win of the season after starting on the circle and going the distance. Bultman (2-2) had four strikeouts.
Hope returns home on Saturday, April 22, to host Kalamazoo College at Wolters Stadium, first pitch at 1 p.m.
